Emotion Coaching
When children are frustrated they tend to yell. As parents we need to teach them how to communicate their feelings in acceptable ways.
This ties in with being able to identify the emotion that your child is feeling. It requires you to actively listen and being mindful (see Day 14 and Day 15).
Once you've identified the emotion then label it so your child knows what to refer to it as. Then help your child find ways to express himself. Ask questions such as "What can you do instead?" and brainstorm some ways.
Today's challenge action is to coach your child through his emotions. When he is not expresing himself properly then coach him through it.
When you have done this then come and join me on my private Facebook group 'Better Parenting Challenge' where we can have a group discussion on today's action or anything about parenting.
