Ramadan Parenting Challenge 2014 |
To persevere is to keep
going, struggle on and not give up. In Islam, perseverance is used with
patience because you need to persist in being patient when there are so many
obstacles and discouragement in your way.
This applies to all
aspects of your life when you are being tested. Allah says in the Qur’an: You shall certainly
be tried and tested in your wealth and properties and in your personal selves...but
if you persevere patiently, and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious) then verily,
that will be a determining factor in all affairs (3:186).
When children test your
patience you might want to throw in the towel but your reward for persevering with
being patient is Paradise. Allah says: For those who are patient, when they
enter Paradise, the angel will say to them: Peace be upon you for you
persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!" (Qur’an
13:24)
When my son has one of
his tantrums, many times I felt like losing it but I have learnt to persevere
in being patient and being there to connect with him. When I listen to his
grievances and try to connect with him, the tantrums does not last as long as
it had in the beginning.
Challenge for today is
to:
- Persevere in being patient with your children. Do not waiver for one moment. Hang on in there because it will get better.
