Prekinders Hands-On Pattern Making

These are some of the things we used to make patterns. You could use just about anything. We also used the calendar to make patterns on the calendar days and we made movement patterns. The 2-pattern (or AB) is the easiest for children to understand. Most prekinders will understand this pattern but only some will grasp the 3-patterns. The colour pattern is easier as well. When there are different attributes such as size as well as colour, children will automatically choose the colour patterning. For example, buttons come in different colours, sizes AND shapes. When asked to make a pattern with the buttons, children chose to make a colour pattern rather than a size pattern or a shape pattern.
