Sewing Lessons For Children

I've just had my first experience in teaching children how to sew - it requires a lot of patience on both my part and the children. The youngest child was 6 years old and the eldest was 13. I had planned the lesson to take 1 hour but it turned out to be 2 hours long. We sewed little felt bags and they turned out quite nice.

The only thing that I hadn't taken into account was that only the teenagers could thread the needle. The younger ones found it very difficult so I had to thread it for them every time they ran out of thread. This took a long time and some waiting. What I would do next time is to take along some needle threaders and teach them how to use this or I would do it myself but it would be much quicker.

As I wrote above, sewing does take longer than planned but I was amazed by their patience, persistence and concentration. It was a wonderful feeling sitting in a group with everyone busy sewing away. They really did enjoyed it.
These were made by my 7 and 10 year old boys.
